Nobel Laureates Among Knox College Honorary Alumni
U.S. President Barack Obama is the most recent of four Knox College honorary alumni who also have been winners of a Nobel Prize. Pioneering social worker Jane Addams and explorer Fridtjof Nansen received the Nobel Peace Prize; economist Gary S. Becker was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics.

Knox Among Top Colleges for Fulbright Scholar Awards in 2009-10
Knox College is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation for Fulbright Scholar grants awarded to faculty during 2009-2010. Karen Kampwirth is studying feminism and politics at the University of Buenos Aires, and Jeremy Day O'Connell is conducting musicology and linguistics research at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Knox College Promotes Five to Full Professor
Knox College has promoted five faculty members to the rank of full professor: Caesar Akuetey, modern languages; Neil Blackadder, theatre; John Dooley, computer science; Lori Haslem, English; and Michael Schneider, history.

Students Participate in Case Competition
Students from 19 colleges and universities competed in the Simon Graduate School of Business annual case competition. Four Knox students participated in the competition, and one, Beijing Zhu, earned honors as a member of the second place team, taking home a cash prize.

Coach Gibbons steps down from Head Football Coach
On Monday, November 9, Head Football Coach Andy Gibbons announced his intention to step down as head coach. Athletic Director Chad Eisele will take the reins as head coach, while Coach Gibbons will remain on staff as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

Knox-Galesburg Symphony Concert November 14
The Knox-Galesburg Symphony performs works by Mozart, Brahms, and Haydn -- Franz Joseph and Johann Michael -- at its concert on November 14 in the Orpheum Theatre.

Political Science Faculty Member Named to Endowed Chair
L. Sue Hulett, professor of political science, has been named the Richard P. and Sophia D. Henke Distinguished Professor at Knox College. The endowed chair was established in 2007 by a $1 million gift from Richard '56 and Sophia Henke.

Knox Professors and Students Excavating Jordanian Site
Two Knox College faculty will explore how an ancient Middle Eastern settlement solved economic and ecological challenges, and -- along with four Knox students -- spend this summer excavating a site in Jordan and sharing their findings in a blog.
